Maintenance and Reliability

Professor Stephen L. Starling of California State University, Hayward has produced a set of presentation slides for his students from a document by Ted Ashford, entitled "Maintenance and Reliability". Although the slides are designed for the needs of his MBA students, they do explain in very simple terms, why companies should consider the advantages of some kind of maintenance program.

BPC International

This link is to a company called BPC International. Their main focus is the sales and marketing of the VideoTherm(r) Infared Camera Systems for the predictive maintenance market. The link takes you to a page from their site discussing the principles of predictive maintenance. Paper by Ralph Barnett discussing safety issues

Ralph Barnett, (Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, and Chairman of the Board, Triodyne Inc., Niles, IL) has written a paper called "The Doctrine of Manifest Danger and its Relationship to Reliability, Preventive Maintenance and Fail-Safe Design". The paper is detailed with case studies and theories about safety issues relating to machinery used in manufacturing. One of the main points raised is that a well maintained machine is a safe machine. If the machine's maintenance is neglected, then it is possible for injuries to operators to result. The document has a link entitle "table 2" which is devoted exclusively to preventive maintenance techniques.
